Frequency Response and Ideal Filters

Stub. Magnitude and phase response of an LTI system, and the ideal lowpass/highpass/bandpass filter models used as a design target.

· 1 min read · 82 words

Splits the frequency response into its magnitude (how much each frequency is amplified or attenuated) and phase (how much each frequency is delayed), and introduces the idealized filter shapes — brick-wall lowpass, highpass, bandpass — that no causal, finite-order system can realize exactly, but which serve as the target every practical filter-design method (later) approximates.

Outline (TODO — flesh out each)

  • Magnitude response
  • Phase response
  • Ideal filters — lowpass, highpass, bandpass, band-reject
