Mechanism Design without Money
Stub. Strategyproof mechanisms when transfers aren't allowed: single-peaked preferences over policies, the house allocation problem, and stable matching. (AGT ch. 10)
What incentive-compatible mechanism design looks like when money can’t be used to align incentives (voting, allocation of indivisible goods, matching markets): median-voter-style mechanisms for single-peaked preferences, serial dictatorship / top-trading-cycles for house allocation, and the Gale-Shapley stable matching algorithm as a strategyproof mechanism.
Outline (TODO — flesh out each)
- Single-peaked preferences over policies — median voter mechanisms
- The house allocation problem — top trading cycles
- Stable matchings — Gale-Shapley and strategyproofness
